A powerful earthquake in Vanuatu causes damage and flight cancellations, affecting several airlines.
A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Port Vila , Vanuatu 's capital city, on Tuesday, causing significant damage to buildings, including a shared diplomatic mission, and resulting in at least one fatality. The quake prompted multiple airlines to cancel or divert flights. Qantas diverted a flight from Brisbane to Noumea, New Caledonia, while Jetstar cancelled its Sydney- Port Vila return flight scheduled for Wednesday.
Virgin Australia also cancelled flights to and from Port Vila on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fiji Airways had to turn a flight around mid-air due to the inability to contact Port Vila's airport for landing. The airlines are assessing the situation and providing updates as they become available
