“I went out for a minute just to go to the store for supplies and the accident must have happened 10 minutes after that,” Martina, 61, said Thursday. “I got a phone call that you’d better get back. A truck went right through the business.” Martina said a friend was working inside and had just served customers hot dogs when he saw the van headed for the building. “He ran outside just in time,” Martina said. The Original Jumbo’s celebrated its grand opening on April 28, selling hot dogs and Italian Ice. Martina said it was his third hot dog business in the area, but the first one in a great location with custom-made steamers, sinks and refrigeration, all of which he paid for.
“I did everything from re-wiring the place, to fixing the foundation, plumbing, the lighting, the flooring, the walls and state-of-the-art equipment,” Martina said.
