Valley Center man, 52, dies after crashing into tree off SR-76 [Breaking]

A 52-year-old Valley Center man died Tuesday morning after crashing his car into a tree off state Route 76 between Pauma Valley and Rincon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The solo crash happened just before 9 a.m. as the man drove a white Toyota Camry east on the highway approaching Lazy H Drive, CHP spokesperson Officer Hunter Gerber said in a news. For unknown reasons, the driver veered off the freeway and struck the tree, Gerber said. He died at the scene. The man’s name was not released and Gerber said it was unknown Tuesday if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which prompted roadway closures in the area until just before noon.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crashed or has information relevant to the investigation was asked to call the Highway Patrol’s Oceanside-area office at 643-3400.
