Matty Ibrahim deals in showdown at Padres' downtown stadium
Instead of standing on the mound at Valhalla High School, the sophomore right-hander was in the middle of the diamond on a Chamber of Commerce day in Petco Park facing West Hills.“I was told by the coaches that it was just a game,” said Ibrahim, who struck out seven over six innings in an 11-0 Valhalla win.“Yeah. Just a game,” Ibrahim said. “But here I was pitching in Petco Park. I go to a lot of Padres games, so this was a childhood dream.
Originally, tickets for these games were sold only through the schools. However, demand was so high that the Padres will open a ticket booth today. Tickets are priced at $25, but include all three games as well as a future Padres game. Colton Stickney got things started with a two-RBI single in the first inning. Catcher Mace Wheeler walked twice with the bases loaded to pick up a pair of RBIs. Center fielder Brennan Simonet had a pair of singles, drove in a run and scored twice. He also played a brilliant outfield, tracking down drives by TK Madera and John Leija.
