Pressure is mounting on Tasmania’s Liberal government after the sudden resignation of Attorney-General Elise Archer. The departure of the state’s first-ever female Speaker of the House comes after a series of personal messages were publicly exposed. The messages revealed Ms Archer not only criticised the state’s premier and party colleagues but also showed a lack of respect for women in politics. Ms Archer is the latest in a line of Liberal MPs who have either resigned or crossed the floor. Tasmanian Labor MP Dean Winter spoke to Sky News Australia saying, “this is the last Liberal government anywhere in the country and it’s in utter turmoil now”. “Ever since Jeremy Rockliff took over less than two years ago, we’ve seen resignation after resignation after resignation.”
