Before UTSA kicked off the 2021 season, Burford said he had already posted a 10-foot broad jump that would rank among the best offensive line prospects in most draft classes. Though he stopped short of laying out specific goals for this week, he said he enters with target marks that he feels “pretty confident” about reaching.
The 6-foot-4 cornerback was measured as the fastest player on the field during Senior Bowl practices earlier this month, fueling speculation about his ability to run the 40-yard dash in less than 4.4 seconds. While much of the outside focus will be on his marks in measured events, Woolen said he can help his cause by showing comfort and fluidity during on-field drills.
Gearing up for the possibility has been a focus since before UTSA took the field last season. McCormick used the summer to try to increase his straight-ahead speed, posting a new personal best of 22 mph on the team’s tracking data. Running back workouts, including the 40-yard dash, are slated for Friday.
