Utah Opera's upcoming season is a love letter to its audience with frequently requested and beloved productions at Salt Lake City's Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre.
"Love is a universal aspect of our human existence and appears in so many sparkling ways — both in life and in opera," Utah Opera Artistic Director Christopher McBeth said in a statement. "The 2023-24 season features wonderfully appealing choices that will really draw people in and allow them to see love shine on the stage, through the music and through the stories that we tell.
The new season explores the different facets of love with the four productions: Puccini's "La Bohème," Rachel Portman and Nicholas Wright's "The Little Prince," Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," and Massenet's "Thaïs." Rachel Portman and Nicholas Wright's "The Little Prince" — Jan. 20, Jan. 22, Jan. 24, Jan. 26, Jan. 28, 2024Massenet's "Thaïs" — May 4, May 6, May 8, May 10, May 12, 2024 "Bringing Massenet's 'Thaïs' to Utah Opera has been an endeavor of almost eight years," said McBeth of the schedule. The production "Thaïs" was originally scheduled for May 2020 but was not performed due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
