This year, it’s estimated that 2,030 women in Utah will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 320 Utah women will die from it,There are moves at the federal level, and in many states across the country, to do more to detect breast cancer sooner — which will give women who are diagnosed with breast cancer a better chance of surviving it. The question is whether more can be done in Utah to support these efforts.

The Huntsman Cancer Institute also has been a major player in cancer research, including work on tracing the genetic roots of cancer and identifying cancer-causing genes — including BRCA1 and BRCA2, the most well-known genes linked to breast cancer.
