Then newly-crowned Australian men's Test player of the year has been left at the airport while his teammates jet off to the subcontinent for a massive series against India.
Khawaja is understood to have encountered an issue with his visa when he arrived at Sydney Airport ready to board the flight with the team to India.
None of the support staff faced similar issues and all the applications for visas were reportedly made at the same time in early January. The 36-year-old was born in Islamabad but moved to Sydney as a toddler with his parents and grew up in Sydney.
