Breaking: Riders at Santa Anita will no longer be allowed to use whips as part of the response to recent horse deaths. The ban goes into effect on Friday when Santa Anita re-opens after being closed since March 5
While none of the measures have been directly tied to any of the equine deaths, Stronach announced the moves as a way to regain public confidence in the sport. They are only in place at Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields, the two California racetracks owned by TSG.
