The US Tsunami Warning Center lifted an alert over the South Pacific on Friday, around three hours after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the region.
WELLINGTON, New Zealand --
Earlier, people living in the region had been advised to avoid coastal areas after the US Geological Survey said a 7.7 magnitude earthquake with a depth of 38 kilometers struck the region. The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency also tweeted no tsunami threat was expected for the western US state.
