The United States is set to levy financial sanctions on pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine as tensions grow between Washington and Moscow — with Secretary of State Antony Blinken due to meet his Russian counterpart Friday.on Tuesday that the sanctions are meant to pressure Russia into pulling back from a potential invasion of its western neighbor.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has denied any allegations of the country planning to invade Ukraine.“What Secretary Blinken is going to go do is highlight very clearly there is a diplomatic path forward,” said Psaki, while a State Department official told the Associated Press Blinken will be testing Lavrov on Russia’s interest in a “diplomatic off-ramp” for the crisis.
