Morgan says it would be disrespectful if the US did not give their best efforts against the Thais.
PARIS: United States star Alex Morgan defended Wednesday her team’s joyous celebrations after the holders began their defence of the women’s World Cup with a record 13-0 demolition of Thailand.
“I think it’s disrespectful if we don’t show up and give our best and play our game for 90 minutes,” Morgan told ESPN.But the Americans’ wild goal celebrations in such a one-sided game were not to everyone’s taste. “And I couldn’t have dreamt of scoring five goals in a World Cup. So it’s incredible for us all and I’m happy just ignoring those comments.”
USA coach Jill Ellis hit back at suggestions her players could have eased up and spared 34th-ranked Thailand complete humiliation.
