US provides additional $2.5 million in response to CycloneIdai
The US has provided an additional $2.5 million to respond to emergency needs in Zimbabwe following Cyclone Idai, through international development agency, USAID.
“USAID will work through the World Food Programme to provide immediate food assistance to approximately 133,000 individuals affected by the cyclone in Chimanimani and Chipinge districts,” the organisation said in a statement. The WFP also welcomed the US donation, which is in addition to the $10 million in humanitarian assistance it has already provided for people in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi following the Cyclone.
