U.S. forces launched an airstrike targeting the militant network al-Shabaab in Somalia on Sunday, killing two terrorists, according to the Pentagon.

"U.S. Africa Command, alongside its partners, continues to take action to prevent this malicious terrorist group from planning and conducting attacks on civilians," the Pentagon said in a statement. Earlier this month, the State Department also placed sanctions on five al-Shabaab leaders believed to be responsible for terrorist attacks in Somalia and nearby African countries.
