The US State Department condemned the Chinese coast guard's 'harassment and intimidation' after one of its vessels almost collided with a Philippines patrol boat.
The United States State Department has condemned the"harassment and intimidation" committed by the Chinese coast guard, after a near miss with a Philippines patrol vessel in the South China Sea.

"The United States stands with our Philippine allies in upholding the rules-based international maritime order," it says. US freedom of navigation exercises have been a constant source of tension between the two nations, as has Chinese construction of bases on artificial islands in the region. The latest confrontation occurred while Philippine patrol boats attempted to conduct an underwater survey of the Second Thomas Shoal, part of the Spratly archipelago and considered Philippines territory.
