US Indo-Pacific Commander Admiral John Aquilino has set out three fundamentals underpinning US foreign policy “to remove all doubt about a few key areas”.
while warning that if there was suddenly a need for the two sides to talk urgently, top-level links are not in place.
“Second, we do not seek to contain the People’s Republic of China ... Third, the United States has not changed our policies toward Taiwan, and we do not support independence.”, the US Pacific Fleet was “taking actions every day to prevent any potential conflict” - but the Chinese are still not picking up the phone, Admiral Aquilino said.
“With the rest of the nations in the region, and with many nations out of the region, we speak often. I’m on their speed dial, and they are on mine. And whenever there’s an event whether it be response to earthquake or a flood … I have the ability to quickly write or call them, and they have the ability to quickly write or call me.Prevent, not provoke, conflict
