KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar today with market sentiment remaining guarded as the world braces for the US presidential election which will be held on Nov 5.

KLANG Royal City Council issued compounds totalling RM10,000 to five business premises in Telok Gong, Port Klang, which were operating without a valid business licence.

The spot-checks were carried out in three wood-based factories, a manure packing firm, and a warehouse. MBDK Licensing Department director Zate Aziana Abdul Rahman said the three wood-based factories and the manure packing firm had been operating without licence since last year. “Our initial checks revealed that the wood-based factories and manure packing firm had failed to renew their licences. It is understood that the wood-based factories were manufacturing furniture parts.

Zate said that under the city council’s Licensing, Trade, Business and Industry By-Laws 2007, compounds were issued to owners for not having valid business premises licences.“We had to weigh the economic aspects and allow the businesses to continue as all had agreed to renew their business premises licence with immediate effect,” she said. ― By EDWARD RAJENDRA
