University of Michigan consumer-confidence reading weaker than expected

The final reading of the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index faded in February, with a 93.8 reading vs. the initial 95.5 and the MarketWatch-compiled economist consensus of 95.6. The reading was above January's 91.2 when the bulk of the government shutdown occurred. Long-term inflation expectations remained near the lowest level recorded in the past half century, the report said.
