PETALING JAYA: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has urged governments not to send refugees or asylum-seekers back to situations where their lives can be in danger.

The statement was issued after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad confirmed Malaysia had recently extradited a woman wanted by authorities in Thailand over her anti-monarchy views.

UNHCR said that due to reasons of confidentiality and data protection, they were unable to comment on individual cases. “If there is a request, then we will send back. good neighbour,” Dr Mahathir said at a press conference on Tuesday .
