Gains have been made in the services-producing sector with 4,400 more jobs, transportation and warehousing with 3,000 more and professional, scientific and technical services with 4,800 additional jobs.
But NDP economy and jobs critic Aleana Young, pointed out that a decrease in full-time “mortgage-paying jobs” is nothing to celebrate in a world of increasing grocery prices and inflation. Young said as part of doorknocking as part of the byelections she has hears several stories of people struggling economically. “The province has seen 28 consecutive months of year-over-year job growth and continues to have the third lowest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate among the provinces of 5.1 per cent,” said Harrison in an emailed statement. Canada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 5.5 per cent.
