In San Antonio, the labor force increased by nearly 18,000 workers in February. It had increased by about 10,000 in January. More people were on the job in the metro area in February, though; the state said employment stood at 1.23 million, up 12,500 from January. Across the state, job gains were recorded in 10 of 13 sectors. Professional and business services led with 30,300 positions added. Private education and health services grew by 12,500 jobs. Trade, transportation and utilities added 5,800. The sectors that contracted were goods producing, which lost 4,500 jobs; mining and logging, down 1,700; and manufacturing, down 5,400.

The state's lowest unemployment rates were recorded in the Midland metro area at 3 percent, Amarillo at 3.5 percent and Austin-Round Rock at 3.7 percent. The highest rates were in the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area at 6.8 percent, Beaumont-Port Arthur at 6.5 percent and Brownsville-Harlingen at 6.3 percent.
