KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the relevant quarters to understand and accept the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong 's decree on pardons or sentence reductions for convicted prisoners.
“Read, understand and accept it,” Anwar said after visiting Lestari Niaga Madani @ KL 2 here on Friday .In the statement, Istana Negara said the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong has the prerogative to pardon, postpone sentences and relieve punishments for any offences committed in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan based on the provisions under Articles 42 and of the Federal Constitution.
It also said the King also can remit, suspend, or lighten any punishments by the courts for these offences.“As such if there are those who want to recommend any convict/prisoner for pardon or reduced sentences, it must be submitted by the prisoner for consideration of the board which will be chaired by the King during the next meeting,” the statement read.
