I am not sure how serious both Umno and PAS are in going for a future political cooperation through the signing of a political charter of a memorandum of understanding.
There is nothing to stop them from engaging in political cooperation, especially after Umno lost power in the last general election. There is no symmetrical relationship between both the parties to speak about a symbiotic partnership.The historical conundrum between both the parties will constitute a fundamental block on their future cooperation.
Primary reliance on race and religion in the absence of a larger, holistic vision will merely render the nexus of both parties as something opportunistic and narcissistic.It is certainly not Umno that is going to use PAS to regain its past glory but rather it is PAS that is strategically in a position to exploit the weakness of its partner.
