Umno, PAS back Muhyiddin as 8th PM

PETALING JAYA: Umno and PAS have made a U-trun and are now endorsing Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the eighth Prime Minister.

A total of 57 MPs from the parties have thrown their support behind the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president, according to a statement signed by Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa and PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

It said 39 MPs from Umno and 18 MPs from PAS agreed to support Muhyiddin's nomination as Prime Minister.The 36 include 11 former PKR MPs who defected along with Datuk Seri Azmin Ali. The 11 MPs are Azmin , Zuraida Kamaruddin , Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah , Baru Bian , Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar , Datuk Mansor Othman , Datuk Rashid Hasnoon , Datuk Seri Santhara Kumar , Ali Biju , Willie Mongin and Jonathan Yasin .
