JOHOR BARU: The role of Umno MPs is to be an effective opposition and not to defend Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, says a group of the party's MPs led by vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Reading the joint statement by the group, the former Johor Mentri Besar said retaining Dr Mahathir as the Prime Minister should not be the job of Umno’s elected representatives.“Inviting Pakatan Harapan leaders to join Umno is also not their affair, ” he said on Saturday .
It came in the wake of Dr Mahathir’s claim that Umno MPs who met with Datuk Seri Azmin Ali at his residence were looking to forge new alliances. He reminded the party and its members not to be fooled by Dr Mahathir’s game, adding that Umno politicians have to rehabilitate and revive the party following its defeat in the last general election.
