Umno has cancelled a planned solidarity gathering for former prime minister Najib Razak, respecting the King's decree on pardons and the Inspector-General of Police's directive against gatherings.
Umno has cancelled a planned solidarity gathering outside the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya on Monday, in respect of the King's decree on pardons or sentence reductions for convicted prisoners. The decision follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police who advised against any gatherings organised by parties.
The rally was intended to coincide with the Court of Appeal's hearing related to an alleged royal addendum order that would allow former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the rest of his prison term under house arrest. Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party humbly accepts the decree and will respect the prerogative powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in using the prescribed legal channels to appeal for Najib. He emphasized that Umno will never disregard the Constitution and remains committed to respecting all rules and laws. Umno also expressed full confidence in the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's compassion and wisdom in delivering full justice to Najib. The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain reiterated that those seeking pardons must submit applications through the appropriate legal channels, specifically to the Pardons Board, rather than through public assemblies or non-legal means
