Australia should consider following Britain’s lead and send tanks to Ukraine amid the brutal fighting and soaring casualty rates in the country’s east, Kyiv’s ambassador to Australia said.
Poland has tried to press Mr Scholz to do so after Warsaw pledged to provide some of its Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Because the Leopard is German-made, Polish officials believe they need Berlin’s approval before they can re-export the tanks. Finland is also considering sending some of its Leopards. While eastern European countries have been able to transfer Soviet-era tanks easily, Ukrainian leaders argue they need hundreds of modern and sophisticated western-made tanks to fight off the Russian invaders.has committed 90 Bushmaster troop carriers and 28 ageing M113 armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine.Mr Myroshnychenko said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s government should consider sending some of its M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
Along with armoured vehicles, Mr Myroshnychenko said Ukraine further needed telecommunications equipment, drones and mines-weeping kit.
