Only 18% of UK teachers think a school-wide ban on mobile phones would boost student behavior, with 41% seeing phones as educational tools. The most disruptive behaviors in classrooms include chatter and inattention.
: Fewer than one in five teachers believe a school-wide ban on mobile phones would improve student behaviour, a survey has suggested, according to PA Media.
The proposed legislation, if passed, could take about a year before the new rules come into effect, Australian broadcaster ABC reported. But the YouGov poll, carried out for education technology exhibition Bett in August, found just 18% of teachers believe a school-wide phone ban is a measure which will improve student behaviour in their school.
A Department for Education blog, published last month, said the use of mobile phones in schools “can lead to distractions, disruption and can increase the risk of online bullying” and they “have no place in classrooms”. Pepe Di’Iasio, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders , said: “Views are clearly mixed about whether mobile phones can be used as learning tools in a manageable way.
