Dr. Jean-Francois Pittet, 72, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 12:46 a.m. Wednesday and released at 3:15 a.m. after posting a $30,000 bond.
The arrest followed a Monday search warrant at Pittet’s Vestavia Hills home on Mountain View Drive. There was a large police presence at the home during the search.
Vestavia Hills police Capt. Johnny Evans said Pittet was detained at that time and warrants were obtained for aggravated child abuse. Evans said no additional details are being released because of the child’s age and the ongoing investigation. Charging documents against Pittet allege he willfully tortured or abuse the child with a sexual violation on more than one occasion.
“We are aware of the arrest and can confirm that this individual has been placed on administrative leave. We take this matter extremely seriously. As employment matters are handled between the employee and the institution, we have no further comment at this time.”70-year-old man killed in crash on I-65 in Shelby County; roadway shut down for investigationIf you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
