American diplomats returned to the Western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Monday, ending a more than two-month period where the U.S. Embassy to Ukraine operated outside the country.
The State Department said last Monday it would resume diplomatic activities in Ukraine and signaled it planned to eventually reopen its Kyiv embassy.
A number of American officials have met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv over the last week, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi .“The message to Russia is: you failed. Ukraine is still standing, the government is still functioning, and we’re going back to Lviv first and then Kyiv to help the government,” Kvien said Monday.
