The Biden administration will resume providing free Covid tests to Americans, part of a wider effort to combat the virus as cases rise
Uptake of revised Covid-19 vaccines remains low. Only 13.5% of people age 5 and older who are eligible for the updated booster have gotten the shot, according to CDC data.
The number of reported Covid-19 cases has jumped to almost 459,000 infections for the week that ended Dec. 7, according to the CDC. That is up from about 307,000 weekly cases for the week that ended Nov. 30, CDC data show. Covid-19 cases are undercounted, public health experts said, because many people aren’t tested or use at-home tests that often don’t report results back to health officials.
The Administration for Community Living, an HHS unit that supports seniors and the disabled, is awarding $125 million to help community-based organizations with vaccinations. The funding will go toward in-home vaccination efforts, transportation and other support services, officials said.
