Katia Chappell, a suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred on Nov. 25 in Cleveland, was taken into custody by U.S. marshals on Monday.

Member of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Katia Chappell, 28, on Monday on the 5000 block of Arch Street in Maple Heights. Chappell was turned over to Cleveland police following the arrest. Chappell, 28, has been charged with aggravated murder in connection with the shooting on Nov. 25 outside Springco Metal Coating on Elmwood Avenue near West 117th Street. The shooting occurred just before 2:30 a.m.
Police say Chappell got into a verbal altercation with two females. The altercation escalated, ending with Chappell shooting Dominique Johnson, 29, and another woman, 23, who was wounded in the arms and legs. Johnson died at MetroHealth Medical Center. “The need to locate and arrest violent individuals like this is paramount to keeping our community safe,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement. “The fact someone could so carelessly take a life can never be overlooked. The diligent work of our officers and task force partners should be commended. Our hope is the victim’s family can find some peace with this arrest.”
