U.S, Europe Evacuate Citizens From Niger Niger
The United States has joined several European nations in evacuating their nationals from Niger, but says it's closely watching the situation. The State Department, however, said that the mission will remain open and senior leadership will continue working.
Washington has so far not announced any withdrawal of troops from the West African country. There are around 1,100 US troops in Niger. General Tchiani, the head of the powerful presidential guard, declared himself the leader of of the country as the elected president Mohamed Bazoum was been held by the military for four days.
