World heavyweight champion Fury's cousin Rico Burton was just 31-years-old when he was stabbed in the neck and killed during a brawl outside a bar in Altrincham
Tyson Fury has admitted that the death of his cousin Rico Burton last year was a major turning point in his life amid his then-retirement from boxing.
Fury, who had trained with Burton in their local boxing gym as a youngster, was told of his death in a 7am phone call while on holiday in Mallorca with his wife Paris. The call was documented in the family's Netflix documentary At Home With The Furys, and proved a changing moment in his career as he officially opted to come out of his short-lived retirement weeks later.
“It’s cowardly tricks, if they would have went outside and had a scrap someone would have a busted nose. Big wow, would have had a scratch or a busted nose. Now one fella is in a morgue and the other is getting 30 years in prison, so what has that solved? Life is very, very fragile. Fury was at the time enjoying a period away from the sport with his wife and their children, but within four months had returned to the ring to face Derek Chisora. And he is now set for two huge showdowns in Saudi Arabia, first against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou on Saturday before an undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk.
