An 18-year-old man has lungs similar to that of a 70-year-old, which are likely to be permanently damaged, thanks to his serious vaping habit.
Adam Hergenreder started vaping about two years ago at age 16. The mint and mango flavours were his favourites.
The agency is assisting the Illinois Department of Public Health in investigating the cases, along with the US Food and Drug Administration . Those in the vaping industry have blamed homemade, illegal devices for the recent rash of hospitalisations, although public health experts have said they can’t confirm that.Even before the hospitalisations, physicians and addiction experts warned of the danger of vapes, or e-cigarettes, popular among young people.
When he couldn’t stop, he woke his mother the next morning, but after a trip to the emergency room and anti-nausea medication, he seemed better, said his mother Polly Hergenreder.
