What can the State Legislature do to generate additional public school funding for those poorer public schools without increasing taxes?
Presently, there are approximately 490 local public school districts in the State, with the usual administrative staffing. The state of Maryland only has 24 public school districts.
One thing the Pennsylvania Legislature could do to generate public school funding would be to mandate only 67 administrative public school districts, one administrative unit per county. Another way for the State Legislature to generate revenue for these poorer public schools would be to do away with all of the State’s Intermediate Units, and let the 67 county administrative units assume their functions.
Both of these actions would make revenue available to increase funding for the poorer public schools. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
