One of the cars lost control and slid over into a jersey barrier, while hitting a crew truck and severely injuring two construction workers.
TACOMA, Wash. — Two members of a construction crew were severely injured on Interstate 5 on Sunday when two cars collided while speeding in a work zone, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The two crew members were working on southbound Interstate 5 at the Puyallup River Bridge on Sunday morning. The southbound lane was reduced to one lane from Port of Tacoma Road to the Interstate 705 exit, as crew members restriped the area. According to reports, just after 3 a.m., two cars were driving at high speed and entered into the work zone.One of the cars lost control and slid over 30 feet into a jersey barrier, while hitting a crew truck and severely injuring two construction workers.The Washington State Patrol believes alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.The second car kept going and has not been found.
