St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to Epic Theatres in St. Augustine for multiple reports of an explosion inside an occupied movie theatre.
A significant law enforcement response was initiated, and it was determined three boys lit at least two ground-to-air fireworks inside an occupied theatre.
One of the suspects used a flame lighter and ignited the fireworks inside the theatre causing damage to the floor.According to SJCSO, there were people inside the theatre during the movie that included young children. By igniting the firework, it caused other people who were watching the movie to flee in fear for their safety.
At approximately 7:20 pm, deputies located the suspects lighting illegal fireworks in the area of Wildwood Drive and US1 South.
