Continued efforts to rid the Western Cape of the illicit possession of unlicensed firearms yielded success when members of Cloetesville SAPS assisted by Stellenbosch detectives arrested two men for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, early Wednesday morning.

The members were conducting crime prevention patrols following a shooting that was reported in the area when they received information about a suspect that is in possession of a firearm at a premises in Eike Street, Cloetesville. The information was followed up and the premises was searched which led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol in a dustbin.

The suspects will make their court appearances in the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court once they have been charged. Furthermore members of Delft police arrested an adult male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Wednesday morning. The members were conducting a tracing operation in the Delft policing precinct when they arrested the suspect. The possibility that the suspect can be linked to other serious and violent crime forms part of the investigation.

The suspect is due to make a court appearance in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 06 October 2023.The views of authors published on South Africa Today are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of South Africa Today.
