Australian tennis legend Margaret Court has allegedly had awards, medals and jewellery stolen from her Perth home on Australia Day. 7NEWS
The 80-year-old is now known as Reverend Dr Margaret Smith Court and is a senior pastor after being ordained as a Pentecostal minister.“Perth detectives have charged two men in relation to an aggravated home burglary,” she said.“Once inside, it will be further alleged the accused rummaged through the victim’s property and stole a number of items including awards, medals and jewellery.
Court is widely regarded as one of the greatest female tennis players of all time and holds the record for most grand slam singles titles with 24.Novak Djokovic won his 22nd grand slam and spoke about overtaking Court on the grand slam title winners list“Of course I am motivated to win as many slams as possible,” Djokovic said when asked if he felt he could catch Court.
“At this stage of my career, these trophies are the biggest motivational factor of why I still compete. That’s the case without a doubt.” In recent years, Court has been somewhat of a controversial figure after being a vocal critic of same-sex marriage and believes homosexuality is a choice. The tennis icon has lived at her beachside home in City Beach, 10km of Perth, for 24 years and briefly put the property on the market in 2021 for a price of $2.9 million.
