Australia has ended its most prolific world championships ever with an historic double in the women’s high jump.
Australians Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers both won medals in the women’s high jump at the world championships in Budapest.Patterson and Olyslagers sharing the podium for silver and bronze not only lifted Australia’s overall medal tally at these championships to six – two more than the country has ever won before – it also meant that for the first time in more than 60 years two Australians will share the podium at a major world athletics event.
Patterson had surgery to insert a plate in her foot in February after cracking a metatarsal bone in an innocuous warm-up drill. Silver medallist Eleanor Patterson, Ukraine’s gold medallist Yaroslava Mahuchikh nd bronze medallist Nicola Olyslagers wer on the podium in the women’s high jump.She soon put the field on notice that she was back in the medal frame when she floated over at 1.97 metres.
