KUALA LUMPUR: Three months after being duped by a human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar, two teenage boys have finally safely returned to Malaysia.

The boys, aged 14 and 15 years old, from Bera, Pahang, arrived in Malaysia on Friday after various matters including documents were settled. The syndicate could not find a use for them after they failed to reach their targets.

"The syndicate gave me a booklet on things to say and told me to charm the victims, who are Chinese nationals overseas. Meanwhile, Chong said the captors initially demanded 300,000 yuan from the families of the two boys. After some negotiation over the phone, they agreed to let the two go for a lower amount.

"They were then brought to Bangkok, where they were placed at an Immigration detention centre while their documents were being prepared.
