PETALING JAYA: Two expert witnesses testifying in the inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim claim they have been threatened.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat in a statement said that the two witnesses, both specialist doctors in the Hospital Kuala Lumpur forensic department, had lodged a report on the matter on Saturday ."We are investigating the case under Section 189 of the Penal Code for threat of injury to a public servant," he said on Tuesday .

He added, however, that there will be no further information on the case as the inquest is still underway. On Monday, the issue of recalling an expert witness to testify in the inquest became a bone of contention during the proceedings. Inquest conducting officer Faten Hadni Khairuddin, in her argument, urged the court to consider an application to recall the 24th witness, HKL forensic expert Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi, 40, who carried out a post-mortem on the firefighter.

However, Lawyer Syazlin Mansor, who is representing the Housing and Local Government Ministry, the Fire Department and family members of the victim, objected to the request, arguing that all witnesses had been given fair and equal opportunity to testify.Muhammad Adib, a member of the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department's Emergency Medical Retrieval Service unit, was seriously injured during a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, in USJ 25 on November 27, last year.
