: At least two people were killed and more than 50 are missing, state media reported, after an apparent collapse at a coal mine in northern China’s Inner Mongolia region on Wednesday.
A video on social media purportedly posted by a coal truck driver appeared to show rocks cascading down a slope, kicking up clouds of brown dust that engulfed several vehicles. Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed authorities to “do everything possible to search for and rescue the missing people”, CCTV reported.
Footage broadcast by CCTV late Wednesday showed rescue workers in military-style jackets working by torchlight to unload and sort bundles of supplies from the back of a truck. Mine safety in China has improved in recent decades, as has media coverage of major incidents, many of which were once overlooked.
