After the car crashed and burst into flames on the M4, police and members of the public tried to remove the two people in the car, but were unable to do so.

Two people have died in a fiery crash in Sydney’s inner west after their car rolled onto its roof and burst into flames during a police chase.

Police were patrolling Centenary Drive in Strathfield just before 12.30am on Tuesday when they attempted to stop a silver Audi.Shortly after the police chase began, the Audi crashed on the southbound on-ramp to the M4 motorway in Homebush and became engulfed in flames. Police and members of the public tried to remove the two people from the car, but were unable to do so. Fire and Rescue NSW arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze and found two bodies in the vehicle.Police declared the fatal crash a critical incident, and officers from the Fairfield City Police Area Command will now investigate the circumstances surrounding it. The investigation will also be subject to an independent review, police said.
