MELAKA: Two policemen have been charged with allegedly robbing a 42-year-old Indonesian tourist at a hotel in Plaza Mahkota here.

TS Praveen and Muhammad Safri Idris, both 31, claimed trial before Sessions Court judge Darmafikri Abu Adam yesterday.Based on the facts of the case, both accused had allegedly robbed the victim, known as Anisa, before taking away her belongings worth RM1,800, including her Indonesian passport.They face a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

They also face another charge under Section 12 of the Passports Act for having possession of a passport without authority. The offence carries a jail term of up to five years and a maximum fine of up to RM10,000, if convicted.The court granted a RM9,000 bail each and fixed May 23 for next mention. Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the accused were lance corporals serving in the Rembau police headquarters in Negri Sembilan and Merlimau police station here.
