Elon Musk forced drastic cost cuts on Twitter after he was forced to buy the company at a price he agreed to but later argued was much too high.

Twitter, the social media platform now controlled by billionaire businessman Elon Musk, allegedly failed to pay Sydney-headquartered Facilitate Corporation more than $1 million when it quit its local office.

Facilitate had worked with Twitter since 2015, when it helped the company build several offices outside the United States. Under the social media company’s previous management, Facilitate was paid in full. Between early 2022 and early 2023, Facilitate says, it worked for Twitter including installing sensors in its London and Dublin offices and organising a full office fitout in Singapore. When Twitter shut its Australian office in the Sydney CBD as part of a round of cost-cutting last year, Facilitate decommissioned the premises and temporarily stored its contents. The bill for Facilitate’s works totalled $1.05 million.
