Twitch’s non-gaming 'Just Chatting' category was watched more than any game December
Fans at TwitchCon in the San Diego Convention Center on September 29, 2019 in San Diego.Twitch’s ongoing strategy to diversify the content on its platform to attract more brands made headway in 2019, as its non-gaming category “Just Chatting” was watched more than any video game in December, according to data from StreamElements and Arsenal.gg.
The report also stated that total hours watched on Facebook Gaming has increased 210% year-over-year, growing its total share of the live-streaming market from 3.1% to 8.5%. Like its competitors in YouTube and Mixer, Facebook has signed exclusive deals with former Twitch streamers, including Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang and Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios.
Twitch saw its share of the action drop down to 61% from 67% in 2018, while its closest competitor in YouTube remained about the same with 28% of the market.Doron Nir, CEO of StreamElements: “Over the last several years, Twitch has been catering to the wide interests of gamers that goes beyond just games. ...In the same way that Amazon expanded beyond being a bookseller yet still being where you go for books, Twitch is heading that way for games.
