President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia. He was received with an official ceremony and met with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and other Malaysian officials. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and explore areas of cooperation between the two countries.
Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Building in Putrajaya today during a two-day official visit to the country. Berdimuhamedov was greeted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at around 9 am before the national anthems of both countries were played. Also present were both Deputy Prime Ministers, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as members of the Cabinet and top government management.
Berdimuhamedov also inspected the Main Guard of Honour from the First Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (Ceremonial) comprising three officers and 103 other ranks. This is Berdimuhamedov's first visit to the country since assuming office in March 2022. During the two-day visit, Berdimuhamedow was accompanied by six Deputy Prime Ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, and five ministers, including Defence Minister Begench Gundogdyyev; Energy Minister (Turkmengaz), Maksat Babayev; Culture Minister, Atageldi Shamyradov and Agriculture Minister, Charyyar Chetiyev. Also accompanying him were senior officials from the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between January and October last year, Malaysia's trade with Turkmenistan increased significantly by 74.8 percent to RM63.28 million (US$13.90 million) compared to RM36.19 million (US$7.91 million) for the same period last year. Last year, the republic was Malaysia's fourth largest trading partner among Central Asian countries with a trade value of RM48.62 million (US$10.57 million)
